Prevue · Image ranking

Stop guessing which images are your best

For image-makers and creative teams. When everything in the shortlist is already good, picking gets harder, not easier. Compare two at a time and end up with the whole set in order — strongest first, with the positions still too close to call marked as such.

Prevue works like an eye exam for your images: two images, quick gut call, next pair. Your choices build a tournament bracket where the strongest work keeps advancing — and the final ranking tells you exactly how settled each position is.

For the 30 or so images you have narrowed to — not the two thousand you shot, rendered, or generated. Bring the ones you are stuck on.

Sample sessionPortfolio shortlist
12 images · 68 calls · 4 evaluators
  1. Ranked first: studio portrait of a bearded man in a shawl-collar sweater against black01
    Settled
  2. Ranked second: city skyline at dusk with lit towers above the waterfront02
    Settled
  3. Ranked third: overhead food shot of sliced beef and salad on a stone plate03
    Settled
  4. Ranked fourth: green valley under low cloud, a road threading the hillside04
    Too close to call
  5. Ranked fifth: turquoise mountain lake at sunrise with snow on the peaks05
    Too close to call
  6. Ranked sixth: aerial view down a wide avenue toward a domed basilica in Rome06
    Settled

The top three separated cleanly. Images 04 and 05 kept trading places right to the end, so the ranking says they are too close to call instead of picking one for you.

A settled session: the whole set in order, with how settled each position is.

How it works

From a shortlist you cannot split to a ranked set. A 20-image set settles in roughly 60–80 calls — four to eight minutes.

Step 01

Drop in the shortlist

Drag in the images you cannot choose between — the near-duplicates, the two edits of the same shot, the three that are all fine. PNG, JPEG, or WebP, up to 25 MB each. Your originals stay in your account and are never exposed to evaluators.

Step 02

Compare side-by-side

See two at a time and pick the stronger one. Fast, intuitive decisions — most evaluators choose in under 3 seconds. No rating scales, no calibration.

Step 03

Get the set in order

Every head-to-head feeds the ranking, like a tournament bracket where the strongest work keeps advancing. You see which images win — and which positions are still too close to call.

Everything you need to make data-backed image decisions.

Convergence

Know when to stop looking

Every image gets a score, and the ranking shows which positions have settled and which are still too close to call. You stop when the order stops moving, not when you get tired of looking.

Team evaluation

End the argument about which one ships

Invite the team to judge the same set. More eyes means a steadier order, and one nobody has to relitigate later. Export PDF reports for internal or client presentations.

The Current

Get outside eyes without showing your work around

The Current is a community evaluation pool where verified evaluators across the platform rank your images. Diverse feedback beyond your own team — on watermarked copies, never your originals.

Image security

Evaluators never touch your raw files

Server-side watermarking, signed URLs that expire in 15 minutes, and separate storage for originals. What an evaluator loads is a watermarked copy that stops working in a quarter of an hour.

Proven methodology, applied to images

Prevue ranks the way a tournament does — every matchup counts. The method underneath is a Bradley-Terry model, the standard way of turning “A beat B” results into a ranking.

  • The eye-doctor method: which looks better — one, or two?
  • A Bradley-Terry model turns those calls into an order, the same method used to rank teams from head-to-head results
  • Smart matchups put your toughest calls — the near-duplicates — head-to-head first
  • Quality checks quietly verify evaluators are paying attention

The model: Bradley & Terry (1952), “Rank Analysis of Incomplete Block Designs”, Biometrika. Prevue runs it through the open-source openskill library.

The three things people ask first

The rest are on the pricing page.

Can evaluators download or steal my images?

No. Every image shown during evaluation is composited with a diagonal watermark pattern on the server — it cannot be removed with browser tools. Image URLs expire after 15 minutes and cannot be reused. Your unwatermarked originals are stored separately and only accessible to you.

How many comparisons does it take to get reliable rankings?

For a typical 20-image session, roughly 60-80 comparisons produce statistically stable results — about 4-8 minutes of active evaluation. The system shows you confidence scores in real-time so you know exactly when rankings are reliable.
